An Ode to the Burger
Updated Jan 31, 2020: Added Gamerz Cafe and Vai Burger
It wasn’t many years ago when a good halal Burger around Montreal was hard to find. Every fast food chain was staring us in the face with their Double Beef Patties and Grilled Cheese Buns…..
How the times have changed…..
Well, sort of….. You can now get to a decent halal burger within 15 minutes from most areas in Montreal and you should be at least full if not satisfied.
Being the foodies that we are we have compiled the list of those burger joints around the city that deserve your attention (cash + stomachs!!!).
West Island
Buffalo Bills
6.5/10

What can be said . The burgers are decent at best. The place is a bit grungy borderline dirty. A lot of the items are great on their menu (honey bbq wings and philly cheesesteaks). The burgers are not bad. They are inconsistent at best. Go here if you have no choice and have low expectations but sometimes they surprise you
B12 Burger (Coming Soon!)
Expecting the same great quality as their Laval location with less of a line up.
Gamerz Cafe
7.5/10
gamerzcafe.com
Despite being a board game cafe (a fun, alcohol free one at that!). The burgers are consistently good and above average. The seating is adequate. Considering it is across the street from Buffalo Bill’s. If you just want Burgers then Gamerz is a better choice. Their coffee and deserts are mostly good or above average.
Ville St. Laurent
Centrale Bergham
(7.5/10)

Standard burger quality, would probably they are a very mcdonaldesque burger (the french fries definitely are). This locations happens to always smell unappetizing but it could be due to the fish market nearby. Not bad, not great. Its your choice of convenience
Laval
B12 Burger
(8.5/10)

A great burger spot. Be prepared for a long line up, suggest you call ahead and figure out the wait time. Saturdays at 5PM are particularily bad. That being said this is a marquee burger destination! Massive burgers, lots of meat and you even get plastic gloves to eat your burgers. I’ve tried many of their menu items and I can recommend almost all of them. Interestingly enough the B12 Burger itself is the least exciting. The french fries side are good.
Allons Burger
(Unreviewed – estimated at 8.5/10!)

Word on the street this a great spot. Visit without fear!!!!
Vai Burger
(7.75/10)

(review based on now closed VSL location)
VAI is mostly a clone of Centrale Bergham but the portions are bigger and the quality is all around better. Its a different vibe than the other Burger joints due to its sandwich options. I can recommend visiting Vai burger if not everybody in your group wants a burger and you are seeking some more variety and creativity
Montreal
Centrale Bergham
(7.5/10)
(over 15 locations)

We have to give it up for Centrale Bergham. They made halal burgers and food a common staple on Montreal streets! The burgers and sandwiches are all decent, creative. Their locations vary a bit in terms of their cleanliness but we would encourage to visit any of them (apart from the V.S.L location which is better for take out, if you must). There are lots of locations on the central and east side of Montreal. Alas, the only West Island location closed down not too long after opening.
Hero Burger
(8/10)

Hero Burger is a premium franchaise from Ontario that offers halal burgers. It is your best option in the downtown area, its more polished due to its corporate heritage too. You are in good hands here as well and the food is consistently good.
North East Montreal
B Burger
(8.5/10)

This is another marquee destination for Burgers. I would say its slight inferior to B12 and a bit less consistency but definitely worth a visit if you are nearby.
